Ending Homelessness. Rebuilding Lives.

Friendship Place Brings Hopeful Ending To Viral News Story

Those who watch WUSA9 daily may be familiar with Shontay Alexander, DC tent community resident and now beloved social media star. On Tuesday, WUSA9 reporter, Andrea McCarren found Shontay living on the street and told her story on the evening news. The internet response was overwhelming and Andrea did a second story promising help for the young woman.

Andrea contacted Friendship Place and asked for our assistance. We sent out our AimHire Director Jermaine Hampton and Welcome Center Director Laura Woody to help her. They set out Thursday morning to engage with the whole tent community. By the end of the day, Shontay was at our Welcome Center creating a plan to find housing and employment.
