As Secretary Eric Shinseki of the US Department of Veterans Affairs  recently remarked, “No one who has served this Nation as a Veteran should ever be living on the street.”

Lakisha and Carlos Huertas were “brand new homeless” veterans with three kids and nowhere to turn. In a matter of months, case manager Emily Bell and the team at Friendship Place’s Veterans First program were able to get them back to stability, connected with benefits, and into affordable housing.

Friendship Place’s Veterans First program is funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
